  26. As stated in previous responses to this thread the Zmodem library used
  27. in Kermit 95 was developed by a Kermit 95 user and donated to The
  28. Kermit Project.  The library is only available for Kermit 95 because
  29. we are not allowed to redistribute the source code.  Since C-Kermit
  30. and MS-DOS Kermit are source code distributions the Zmodem library
  31. cannot be integrated into those products.

  33. The solution to this situation is very simple.  Write your own Zmodem
  34. library to integrate with MS-DOS Kermit that does not violate the
  35. copyright of Omen Technologies and donate it to the Kermit Project.
  36. Professor Doupnik has donated a large part of his last two decades 
  37. developing and supporting MS-DOS Kermit.  I find it incredible that
  38. anyone would take such a thankless position.  On one had you say that 
  39. MS-DOS Kermit is this incredible piece of software that is more than 
  40. three times faster than anything else you have seen.  But then you
  41. complain that it doesn't do everything that you want it to do.

  43. I have to tell you that one of the benefits of being a volunteer 
  44. software developer is that you get to choose what you want to work on.
  45. If Zmodem was something that Professor Doupnik wanted to work on I am
  46. sure he would do a fantastic job.  But as a academic his primary motivation
  47. is to do things that haven't been done before or that solve problems 
  48. that he is experiencing.

  53. The definition of 'beta' is "a test build that is publicly available 
  54. to end users".  It is not an indication that a release is imminent.
  55. It is simply a way of Professor being supportive of the users of 
  56. MS-DOS Kermit by fixing bugs that have been reported.
